About Mahvash

Mahvash was born in Tehran, Iran in 1955.  She was pursuing her MFA in Fine Art at the University of Tehran before moving to the United States just after the Iranian Revolution, amidst the Iran/Iraq War. After relocating to San Jose, CA , she continued her studies at San Jose State University under the tutelage of Rupert Garcia. 

Predominantly using  oil and canvas, her often large scale paintings seeks to recognize and illuminate the unsung struggle and sacrifices of those, especially children and women, living in adversity in societies impacted by war and socioeconomic struggle. 

In recent years, she has also began creating digital work on the iPad mostly focused on the objectification and gender roles of women in current culture. 

Mahvash currently lives in San Jose, CA.
